VIU is organizing a weekend trip to the mountains in December. Orla McLaughlin (VIU Associate Director) will accompany the group.
Destination: San Martino di Castrozza
A quaint alpine town with slopes suitable for both beginner and advanced skiers/snowboarders, lots of trails for trekking, baby slope where you can rent sleighs, nice shops, etc.
Accommodation: Hotel Margherita, Via Passo Rolle 187, San Martino di Castrozza.

110 euro per person for two nights (55+55) in double/triple room.
Breakfast and dinner are included. Beverages are not. The use of the wellness center is included. There is wireless internet in the lobby, but not in the rooms.
Organized activities
Saturday: skiing / snowboarding
Equipment, such as skis, poles and boots, are available for rent for approx. € 15 per day.
A skipass costs approximately €37 per day. Discount available for afternoon only pass.
We will also organize ski lessons for anyone who wants them – approx. € 30 per hour for a group of up to 4 people.
Students who sign up for the trip will receive more detailed information on how and where to rent equipment, where to buy skipasses etc.
Sunday: trekking in the woods with snowshoes.
snow shoe rental – approximately €7 . You should already have your own waterproof boots. Snowshoes go over your own boots.
Students who decide to come on the trip will not be obliged to take part in the organized activities. If you prefer to ski both days, you will be free to do so. If you are not interested in skiing there are other things you can do: trekking in the woods (there are lots of trails – maps are available at the tourist office), rent sleighs, take a cable car to the top of the mountain and go to a mountain lodge for lunch, shopping in the town.
Transportation:
Venice to Feltre – by train.
Feltre to San Martino di Castrozza – by bus.
There is a ski shuttle service that stops near the hotel and takes you to the various places of interst.
The bus and train tickets will cost €15 approx. each way. The exact cost will depend on which train you get (faster trains may cost more) and how many students confirm (if there is a good number we can rent a private bus from Feltre to San Martino which will cost a few euro more, but is much quicker and comfortable too).
