(“Summertime”, 1955), by David Lean, 96 mins, starring Katharine Hepburn, Rossano Brazzi, Isa Miranda, color, English, Italian with English subtitles

Jane Hudson, a jaunty as well as attractive middle-aged secretary from Akron, Ohio, has finally made it to Venice for her long-awaited dream vacation. Never-married Jane is content to go it mostly alone but will soon discovers that even in a city as beautiful and fascinating as Venice, going it alone can still leave one feeling terribly lonely.

(“Bread and tulips”, 2000), by Silvio Soldini, 116 mins, starring, Licia Maglietta, Bruno Ganz, Giuseppe Battiston, color, Italian with English subtitles

A housewife from Pescara, while on holiday trip with the family, is forgotten in a roadside café by her husband and sons. She decides to go to Venice and remain there. Won David di Donatello Award as Best Movie (2000).
