The “Rite of Spring” is probably one of the most representative masterpieces of the last century.
The premiere took place in Paris on May 29th 1913 and caused a real scandal; at that time Igor Stravinsky was 31 years old.
Despite this negative reception, the masterpiece was able to impose itself on the contemporary music scene, becoming at that time the reference point for all composers to come.
It can be said that the “Rite of Spring” changed the fortunes of musical history of the 1900s.
The score consists of 13 episodes, divided into two parts, composed respectively of 7 and 6 scenes.
The execution will be performed by Ezio and Anna Lazzarini, piano four hands, playing Stravinsky’s transcription.
“The Rite of Spring was a revolutionary work for a revolutionary time. Its first performance in Paris, exactly 100 years ago on Wednesday, was a key moment in cultural history – a tumultuous scandal.
