Friday, 15 May: boat trip to the MOSE system

Co-curricular visit to the Mose system

The visit is compulsory for students attending the courses:

  • S1501 History of Venice
  • S1514 Globalization, Environment and Sustainable Development
  • S1517 Cities, Global Change and Sustainable Development
  • S1518 Coastal Wetlands, Lagoons and Estuaries.

For students attending one of these courses the visit is sponsored by VIU.

Program:

  • 9.30 am: meeting point  in classroom 9A and presentation by Elena Zambardi of Consorzio Venezia Nuova;
  • 10.30 am: departure with private boat from San Servolo dock to MOSE and bocca di porto of Lido;
  • 12 am: expected ending time.
  • The boat will leave the students near Arsenale.

ACTV STRIKE  programmed for Friday, May 15

On Friday May 15 , 2015 a 24-hour strike will affect Actv water, bus transport and ticket sales services.

The essential Actv water services will run.  Boat n. 20 is not affected by the strike and will run regularly. 

During the strike, Actv buses will run in these times bands: 6.00-8.59 am; 4.30-7.29 pm.

Everybody is invited to take part to the “Sport Tournament” where you can challenge your mates in two different sports: Basketball and Football (Soccer).

You can challenge your colleagues in a “nation to nation tournament” or forming international teams and enjoy a multicultural match!

Students and professors willing to take part in the Sport Tournament shall sign their name in the list on corridor 9 by Tuesday, May 12 at 5 pm.

A Bite of China is a popular Chinese documentary television series on the history of food, eating and cooking in China. It introduces the history and the story behind Chinese cuisine: the meaning and the symbol each represents, the connection between the nature and the people, the creation of unique foods and traditional recipes. For these series, more than 60 locations in mainlands China, Hong Kong and Taiwan have been used. It was first aired on May 14, 2012 and quickly gained high ratings and widespread popularity

Within the framework of the opening events of the 56th Art Biennale of Venice (May 9 – November 22) VIU has the great pleasure to invite you all, as promoter of this event, to the round table in presentation of “The Phoenix”, an artwork by Master Xu Bing, that will be displayed in the Gaggiandre of the Arsenale during the Biennale.​
The round table will be held at the Hotel Danieli (San Marco) this Friday, 8 May at 10.30 am and will bring together important curators and art critics, who will discuss the significance and implications of Xu Bing’s “Phoenix Project”: Ambassador Umberto Vattani, VIU President will chair the event together with Jay Levenson (MoMA New York), Achille Bonito Oliva, Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, Hou Hanru (MAXXI), Hans d’Orville (UNESCO), Samuel Kung (MoCA Shanghai), Danilo Eccher and Wang Wei.
It is a very interesting and exclusive opportunity, not only to know in preview this amazing artwork, but also to enter the contemporary scene of debates on contemporary art and events linked to the Biennale of Venice!
The meeting point is at San Servolo boat stop (boat of 10 am) or at San Zaccaria line 20 stop at 10.10 am, we will go together to the conference hall.

This year the Universal Exposition is hosted in Milan, creating number of interesting occasions of debate and events all along the country.

Aquae Venice 2015 is the unique official side event of Milan Universal Exhibition dedicated to food and feeding. It is the great universal exhibition dedicated to water and aims to describe, in a simple, experiential, educational and interactive way, to everybody how and why water deeply influences our lives and the way in which this theme will be developed in industry, feeding, culture in next decades.

VIU students, professors and staff have the chance to freely participate to a very interesting event in these days:

  • Tuesday, May 5, 4 pm: opening of the Scientific Session Aquae Venezia 2015. The pavilion dedicated to water themes collateral of the Universal Exposition of Milan, will be officially inaugurated!
  • Wednesday and Thursday, May 6-7: conferences focused on the relationships between water availability, food safety and sustainable development. Please, find the detailed program enclosed.
VIU students and professors can join the conferences and have free access to the pavillion, in one or more of the three days.The deadline for confirmation is alas very tight: if you are interested in participating please send an e-mail with your name and indicating what sessions you are planning to join, by Tuesday May 5, 1pm to ilda.mannino@univiu.org
